What is Kybella®?

Kybella® offers a non-surgical solution to dissolve fat under the chin, enhancing your facial contours and boosting your self-confidence. Kybella® is a non-surgical way to reduce submental fullness – extra fat beneath the chin. How Does Kybella®  Work?

Kybella® is an injectable whose active ingredient is deoxycholic acid (DA). This substance is naturally found in the human body, and its role is to break up and absorb dietary fat. When Kybella® gets injected into the submental fat, it destroys fat cells, which can then no longer store or accumulate fat. Destroying the fat cells that make up the double chin results in a visible reduction of submental fullness. Once you reach your desired goal, there will be no further need to undergo Kybella® treatment. The destruction of the fat cells is permanent.

What Can You Expect from Kybella® Treatment?

• You’ll meet with one of our RN Aestheticians to determine if your submental fat fits the Kybella® guidelines. 
• We will examine the area under your chin to determine whether Kybella® is the best solution for your issue. 
• Your aesthetic goals, your body’s response to the treatment, and the amount of fat that needs to be destroyed will determine the number of treatment sessions required for the desired result. 
• Your RN Esthetician will determine what this number is for you. You may receive up to 6 treatments every 4 to 6 weeks. 
• At each treatment session, you will receive several small injections under your chin in a grid pattern, these appointments take about an hour. 
• Each Kybella® treatment is given 4 to 6 weeks apart depending on your personal recovery time. 
• The effects of a Kybella® treatment last forever. This is because Kybella® destroys the fat cells. Once they are destroyed, they cannot store fat. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will prevent fat cells from returning.

A Few Aftercare Tips for Maximizing Your Kybella® Results?

• Before your Kybella® treatment we suggest avoiding alcohol and caffeine for 24-48 hours before your first session. 
• Before your Kybella® please check your Vitamin intake. Niacin (B3) supplements, ginkgo biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, Vitamin A, and Vitamin E can increase bleeding and bruising. 
• Your Kybella® treatment may cause significant swelling after each injection session. We suggest applying ice for 20 minutes each hour for 6-8 hours after your initial session. We suggest that you wrap that ice pack in a towel or bit of cloth to ensure you don’t apply the ice pack directly to your skin. 
• Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water before and after your session. The fat being destroyed by the Kybella® will be absorbed and passed out of your system requiring a bit of extra hydration. 
• Take acetaminophen. If you have pain we recommend just an over-the-counter pain reliever like Tylenol or acetaminophen. 
• Avoid direct sun exposure and vigorous exercise for about 24 hours after your session. 
• Sleep on your back with your head elevated by using 2 pillows for the first 3-5 days after your session. Keeping your head above your heart, in this position, will decrease the blood pooling in the treated area, and reduce the risk of bruising and additional swelling. 
• Hold off on additional treatments such as other injectables, laser treatments, peels, facials, microneedling, and/or microdermabrasion, especially in the same area as the Kybella® for 3-4 weeks.
