What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is a unique dermal filler composed of an FDA-approved substance called poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA). Poly-l-lactic acid stimulates gradual new collagen production in the treatment areas once injected to restore volume loss and smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Sculptra® injections can be performed to achieve optimal facial rejuvenation. Due to the lack of downtime, few potential side effects, and consistently stunning, natural-looking, and long-lasting results, Sculptra® is one of the most popular injectable treatments. 

The safety and efficacy of Sculptra® treatment are well-established, and it has many cosmetic applications. How Does Sculptra®  Work?

Sculptra® is unique in that it is a liquid dermal filler composed of poly-L-lactic acid. As the injectable treatment stimulates new collagen production over time, it creates a smoother, firmer skin texture and a naturally-looking, more youthful appearance. Sculptra® can also provide longer-lasting facial rejuvenation results than many hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, with the effects of Sculptra® lasting up to two years and hyaluronic acid fillers 6-12 months. While hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if the results are unsatisfactory or a nodule develops, the effects of Sculptra® can not be reversed.

What Can You Expect from Sculptra® Treatment?

Sculptra® can result in smoother, tighter, firmer, more youthful-appearing skin and reduced signs of aging. It takes 4 to 6 weeks to see the visible effects of Sculptra® injections. Most patients need at least three Sculptra® treatment sessions, each spaced one month apart, to achieve the best results. The effects of Sculptra® typically last two years, with many choosing to engage in an annual maintenance treatment session to keep up the best results. 

Acne scars are an incredibly common skin condition, with one in five individuals with acne developing some form of acne scars. Acne scars develop when inflammation associated with active acne causes irreparable damage to the underlying skin tissue. As part of the natural wound-healing process, collagen production occurs. When insufficient collagen is produced during that process, depressed acne scars form. Depressed acne scars, or atrophic acne scars, are the most common type. Patients with depressed acne scars on the cheeks, chin, and jawline can benefit greatly from Sculptra® treatment, which restores lost collagen to the affected areas. To achieve optimal acne scar reduction results, most patients need a series of 3-6 Sculptra® treatment sessions, each spaced one month apart. Ultimately, the number of treatment sessions needed will depend on the severity of the acne scars.
